The Partnership for Inclusive Disaster Strategies Receives MacArthur Foundation Grant to Support Fight for Right Ukraine

The Partnership for Inclusive Disaster Strategies (The Partnership), the only U.S. disability-led organization that focuses on equity and inclusion for people with disabilities and people with access and functional needs before, during and after disasters and emergencies, has been awarded a grant of $250,000 by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation.

The grant will enable The Partnership to support Fight for Right, a Ukrainian women and disability-led NGO led by human rights activist Yuliia Sachuk, that defends the human rights of Ukrainians living with disabilities amid the ongoing full-scale russian invasion.

"We are honored and grateful to receive this generous grant from the MacArthur Foundation, which recognizes the vital role of people with disabilities and disability-led organizations responding in the war," said Shaylin Sluzalis, Co-Executive Director of The Partnership. "This grant will help Fight for Right to continue working tirelessly to safely evacuate individuals with disabilities, to help those in de-occupied and close to war-zone areas and to provide what internally displaced people with disabilities need to live independent lives in safety,” said Yuliia Sachuk, Head of Fight for Right.

The Partnership has been at the forefront of disability-inclusive emergency management, community organizing, policy, advocacy and training, working with a network of local, national and global disability rights, emergency management and public health leaders and allies.

The MacArthur Foundation is one of the nation's largest independent foundations, supporting creative people, effective institutions, and influential networks building a more just, verdant, and peaceful world.
