We are deeply saddened by the devastating, targeted, mass shooting that took place at Silver Rail Elementary in Bend, Oregon, on Thursday, October 15th. Among those who lost their lives or were critically injured were four disabled children and their two teachers. Our hearts are with those affected, including students, families, Oregon residents, and those across the nation.

School shootings in themselves are disasters that the majority of young people and school staff prepare for in the United States of America. At The Partnership, we know that disaster and emergency planning is risk mitigation. However, systemic changes can and must happen so there isn’t a risk in the first place. For now, we encourage everyone to take care of themselves as we collectively grieve and reflect on the events of last week.

If you or a loved one is disabled and impacted by these disasters that have taken place in Oregon or elsewhere, please reach out to The Disability & Disaster Hotline. We are here for you.
