Statement on Overturning of Roe v. Wade

A sun with four images within it and the words "The Partnership for Inclusive Disaster Strategies" to the right of the sun. The four images are a hurricane, a thunderstorm cloud, a home with a split down the middle, and a tornado.

The Partnership for Inclusive Disaster Strategies is outraged at the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn the federal rights of women and all pregnant people to have an abortion.

During disasters, instances of domestic violence and rape increase with disabled women as disproportionate targets. We are appalled that the Court has decimated all women and pregnant people’s right to bodily autonomy. The rescission of this right will disproportionately impact disabled, poor, LGBTQIA+, Black and other people of color, immigrants, and other multiply-marginalized communities. The criminalization of abortion will lead to marginalized people facing increased incarceration, institutionalization, and targeting by the state if they attempt to protect their bodily integrity.

We call upon states and territories that have kept abortion safe, legal, and available to welcome all women and pregnant people from states that have chosen to deprive women and pregnant people of their fundamental right to choose to have an abortion.
