Dear Community,
As we approach the fifth anniversary of our Daily COVID-19 Disability Rights and Disaster Calls, we want to take a moment to reflect on this unprecedented journey we've shared together. On Friday, it will mark 1,708 consecutive days — from February 28, 2020, to November 1, 2024 — we have come together every single day to support one another through the COVID-19 pandemic, disasters, and beyond. As of the first weekend in November, we will stop holding calls on Saturdays and Sundays.
Whether you've joined us every night or participated occasionally, your insights, ideas, and questions have created a unique and invaluable space. Together, we've brainstormed and problem-solved issues around disability rights, disasters, COVID-19, and other infectious diseases. This collective effort has saved lives and prevented the institutionalization of countless Disabled people. The calls have served as a shelter throughout the crisis, a community bound by solidarity and a shared commitment to protecting and uplifting each other and Disabled lives everywhere.
As we reach this significant milestone, and in consultation with many of you, we've decided to adjust our meeting schedule. Starting November 1, 2024, we will pause hosting calls on weekends and certain days — such as the fourth Thursday in November, December 24, 25, 31, January 1, and July 4 — which are traditionally low-attendance days. This change will allow all of us the opportunity to regroup, refresh, and spend valuable time with loved ones.
We are not going anywhere! We will continue to host our Daily COVID-19 Disability Rights and Disaster Calls five days a week, Monday through Friday at 6:00 PM ET, as well as our National Weekly Stakeholders Call every Tuesday at 3:00 PM ET.
Please also know that in times of disasters and other situations that demand the Disability Community's immediate attention, we will resume our calls seven days a week. Our commitment to you remains unwavering.
Thank you for your nearly half-decade of steadfast support, participation, and dedication. Your resilience and camaraderie have made these calls a cornerstone of our community throughout the pandemic and beyond. We look forward to our continued work together as we navigate the difficulties and triumphs ahead.
