We call for a full and transparent investigation and immediate action to ensure atrocities like this never happen again. People must be treated with dignity and provided the access and support they need. Disabled people are not expendable!

Disabled migrants face compounded risks in the United States immigration systems, where lack of access and oversight has deadly consequences. It is extremely concerning to know that the Department of Homeland Security has eliminated key civil rights oversight positions that helped ensure DHS followed disability rights laws and the Constitution. To ensure justice for Nurul and protect the life and liberty of disabled people in federal custody, DHS must immediately restore and strengthen these civil rights functions.
