Portraits and Portals is an artistic initiative designed to illustrate the impact of disasters and crises on people of color with disabilities. Portraits and Portals is proudly brought to you by The Partnership for Inclusive Disaster Strategies and SeededGround.
This project has paired 9 disabled artists/creatives of color with 9 disabled disaster survivors of color to transform their lived experiences into works of art, including visual art, poetry, and music.
At the epicenter of disasters, whether hurricanes, wildfires, pandemics, or systemic failures, people of color with disabilities often experience compounding risks. Yet, our voices and stories are rarely centered. Portraits and Portals seeks to change this by creating a platform where these experiences are venerated, amplified, and transformed into art that connects, educates, and motivates.
